This happens to be dear to my heart right now. Since I have strep, I also have realllllly gross coughing and congestion, so I break the BAD kind of sweat and get light-headed seconds after starting up what is normally a typical workout. I know that as long as one isn't having problems breathing, one can continue with pretty much any exercises one had been doing.

Without going to a public pool and exposing everyone else to my strep, which would be BAD mmkay?, what can/should I be doing at home to keep me from feeling just as gross once the worst of the illness has passed? I know I always feel weak in general if I've skipped my workout for 3 days or more and want to avoid this.

Sometimes working out a little while being sick can actually help you get better. Don't push yourself so much that you will pass out. Maybe go out for a walk around the block (away from people obviously), instead of doing a strenuous workout. Stretches are good too. Just don't push yourself.

Are you on antibiotics? If so, after being on them a few days you wont be contagious anymore so going out isn't as limited.

a general rule of thumb is that if you start to feel worse as you workout, then stop. I have sent clients home before. Sneaking in a workout is not worth extending your illness. If you are feeling cooped up then go for a little walk, but getting your heart rate up is not the goal.

I agree with Kulu. Both my parents are physicians and always have plenty of advice when I'm sick. Depending on the illness of course, your body needs to rest as much as possible so you can recover. But if you feel like you can take a short walk, it should be okay. :)
