A fabric with designs kinda like this I'm drawing up sketches for a "Archivist Twi'lek (Jediness)" and I wanted to see if I could find some cloth like this. I might just have to sketch it out on the cloth or cut out the top layer and put a darker one underneath.

Most people who do Jocasta's costume use fabric paint to create the designs.

Hmmm well I guess I could give the paint a shot. it just seems like it would like kinda cheap with painting it on, I don't know though I've never tried it :D

the "cheapness" depends on the paint that you use. most "fabric paints" look just like you painted on some lines. you will need to play around with some different brands and types (each fabric accepts paint differently) but there are paints that will look more like a dye when finished. it just takes more time and experimenting to get the look that you want.

I have used the easy to find Tulip "soft fabric paint" and it tends to look like garbage unless you dilute it down so that it sinks into the fabric instead of sitting on top. You also have to be careful not to put it on too thick or it will cake up. overall, i wouldn't say no to the Tulip brand, but you will have to play with it to make it work.

What do yall think of the idea of making a light tan top and a bottom that's brown. Then I cut the top and turn it in so it'll be smooth fudge sticks...did that make anysense?

Sounds like a hell of a lot of work, actually. Not that this stops people like us.

If you want to get the pattern exactly the same as the one Jocasta has, I agree with the paint idea, but consider that it never hurts to browse a few fabric stores and see if you can't find something similar. For my Aayla costume I found a patterned fabric at Hancock that was nearly perfect - it was nice to not have to paint to get the right pattern :)

@Belladonna: I just hate to go to Hancock fabrics they are really expensive. I normally keep an eyeball out for garage sales (such as this weekend HUGE LOADS OF FABRICS seriously that grandma was a packrat) Hmmm...but I suppose I'll go check it out :D
